Point Turton Trip Report

A great location with convenience to the jetty, breakwater and picturesque views also great sunrises and sunsets.

On Friday 15th May 49 members of the Pleasure Fishing Group started to descend on the park, some stragglers arriving as late as Monday, they established themselves in cabins and caravans. 3 new members joined the group Norma Rob and Michael.

Drizzly rain was experienced Friday, Saturday and Sunday but people were not deterred from jetty fishing. The weather fined up and some tried their luck on Burners Beach Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There was some controversy over Don L using someone’s rod, reel and bait AND LANDING the longest fish, But he triumphed winning the yellow jacket with a 45cm flathead.

Joy T won the ladies section with a 44cm catfish.

Roly B caught the most fish 102. Well done.

The total amount caught by the group 598.

Congratulations to Murray and Evelyn who celebrated their 56th wedding Anniversary, What a milestone.

Laughter and hilarity from the camp kitchen could be heard as far as the hotel on the road above. A good time was had by all.

Bob was sitting peacefully in his car on Wednesday, he was trying to keep Margaret out of trouble but to no avail; she yelled screamed jumped up and down, banged on the windows and made such a fuss he had to unlock the caravan door and let her out.

Also a couple of guys swapped underclothes at the Shower Block and one even lost his underpants. (Secret men’s business no doubt)

Malcolm cooked scones for morning tea they were delicious; the CWA would be proud.

Thanks to Malcolm and Jenny for their hospitality.

Thursday evening 21st, we dined at the Warooka Bowling Club; they provided a three course dinner for $12. Homemade soup, snitzel chicken or beef and sweets, it was excellent. It was served by lovely waitresses who told us the youngest was 82.

The raffle was won by Jim B; an excellent rod and reel. He was very pleased.

Second prize a backpack was won by Don B. There were also many other prizes appreciated by all.

Special thanks to all donors.

The Bowling Club meat tray was won by Coral who was going to share it with Jeanette and Gerald on Saturday Night.

Thank you to the organizers Margaret and Bob and all who contributed to an enjoyable week.

 Port Broughton Trip Report

It's tally time for fishing scores,
Recorded in 'the book',
All checked and measured by the rule
And all caught on a hook.

No undersize or fish-shop buys,
None netted out at sea,
All vetted and brought to account
Quite honestly, by me.

And now for the successful few
With rod and line and bait,
Who walked out onto Broughton pier
And lined the rails to wait.

And if your name's not mentioned
And you didn't score a fin,
We know you tried your hardest
Even though you didn't win.

We've been lucky with the weather,
The company's been great,
And we'll go fishing in the future,
And once again, we'll wait.

Now Marg and Bob caught three good fish,
A reasonable score.
The enthusiasts are out to beat
By catching up with more.

Kath went fishing on the beach.
She caught two on the shore,
But as Allan isn't fond of fish,
She'll eat them both, and that's for sure.

And I heard tell that John had crabs!
Beside the fish he hooked,
While Maureen hauled a couple in,
That should be fine when cooked.

Jeanette managed a catch of five,
A score of two for Paul,
And even with  a mascot's help,
The dog caught none at all!

Our Thorpe's haul is passable,
He managed to catch three.
He nearly caught a whopper squid
That came out of the sea.

Now Iris is a quiet one,
She's patient on the jetty,
Only two fish to her credit,
But her art work is so pretty.

It's usual when we take the score
Of fish that have been caught,
That Colin's name comes into mind,
And so of course, it aught.

But six whole days, and just six fish!
That's going to make him hurt.
He'll have to pull his sox up
Or he'll never win that shirt.

Now June and I between us both
Have managed to catch ten.
Of this I have to mention,
It may not occur again.

And when June goes 'cruising'  on the pier,
It's not what you might think.
She's after cephalopods you see,
Or squid, with all that ink.

And mention must be made of course,
Of the concert in our 'hall',
Accompanied on his prized guitar,
Bruce entertained us all.

And his 'other half' was quite a hit
With belly laughs galore,
When she read her 'drinking' poem
And she 'couldn't find the door'.

But Murray Frazer scoops the pool,
The "Old Man of the Sea",
With sixteen legals to record,
A handsome victory.

Report of Trip to Point Turton December 5 to 12, 2009.

40 of our members assembled again at Point Turton Caravan Park on Saturday December 5 to renew acquaintances and try our luck out on the Jetty. We welcomed Peter (a good friend of Maxine & Don) and hope to see him again on future trips now that he realizes we are not all great fishermen.

The Competition began in earnest on Sunday with reports that the king fish were frightening away the other species. However over the course of the week a few of the king fish were caught, some by our members. Thanks to Roly most of us were able to sample king fish and it certainly was very tasty. Thanks Roly!

The Raffle was drawn on Monday evening with most of the group winning a prize. Many thanks go to those who donated the prizes.

On Tuesday many of the group went to Burner’s Beach to try their luck. Unfortunately I think the fish were fore-warned as they were no where to be found! Most enjoyed the outing to such a beautiful location.

Our Xmas Dinner was wonderfully catered for by the volunteers at the Warooka Bowling Club on Wednesday evening. Malcolm & Jenny joined us for the evening and we had a great time.

Special thanks to Don & Joy, Tom & Iris & Allan for the “Angel” name place holders. We sure looked an angelic bunch!

Nancy had a good win in the Bowling Club raffle…Just a pity you couldn’t count the fish you won towards the catch of the day!

It was heard over the grapevine that an esky lid went over the jetty. A keen youngster contemplated a swim to recover it but after a short discussion decided very wisely not to pursue it...

Thursday evening was Sing-a-long with Kath on the keyboard. Although we didn’t all sing in tune we had a fun time and wish to thank Kath once again for an entertaining evening.

Noon Friday signaled the close of the competition giving time to tally the scores before the BBQ on Friday evening. Many thanks to Doug for doing the stats – it is not an easy job chasing around for the information each day. Well done.

 The prize winners were:-

 Men’s section

Roly   Most fish caught for the year (179)

Roly   Jaws Award for the heaviest fish

Roly    Yellow Jacket for longest fish

 Ladies section

 Margaret. Most fish caught.

 Margaret. Longest fish caught.

Many thanks to Malcolm & Jenny for putting on the barbecue and for their continued support which is most appreciated.

Thanks to all who helped at the barbecue and also a big Thankyou to Bob & Margaret for the great work they do organizing these events, photos & ongoing communication.

Next year the dates for end of year fishing trip are Thursday 18 to 25 November 2010.
