Fifty six members of the ARPA Pleasure Fishing Group attended the May trip to the Point Turton Caravan Park. This caravan park on the Yorke Peninsula with genial hosts Malcolm and Jenny Clifton has become the favourite site for our group. The close vicinity of the jetty to the caravan sites is a bonus for our group.
Some members arrived a few days early to take full advantage of the beautiful weather that we had, but the main group arrived on the Friday to set up camp. The main fishing competition for those who wished to participate in, started in earnest on Saturday.
Tuesday most of the group enjoyed a day at Burners Beach, thirteen kilometres west of 'Turton. A variety of fish were caught mostly at the turn of the tide late afternoon, and included some nice size Mullet and Salmon Trout. Some members just enjoyed sitting on the beach watching the antics when a fish was caught.
Tuesday evening saw the group dine at the Warooka Hotel, where all enjoyed a lovely cooked meal of roast pork or a generous serve of fish, with hot vegetables and fresh salads.
Wednesday evening was quiz night, where groups of six endeavoured to find answers to questions. Some answers were very controversial, but Bob's answers were correct, and "no correspondence was entered into"! A very entertaining night for all those who participated.
Happy hour on Thursday afternoon, saw the presentation of the Yellow Jacket, awarded to the person who caught the longest fish for the week, and was won by Gerald who received a new rod and reel for first prize. The second prize was won by Iris who also received a rod and reel, kindly donated by our hosts, Malcolm and Jenny. A BYO BBQ followed with an extra generous serving of barbequed shark especially supplied and cooked by Malcolm. Yummy!
Friday saw an exodus of members, most of whom caught ,or were given, generous fillets of fish to take home to enjoy. A great finish to a lovely week with the ARPA Pleasure Fishing Group.
As coordinators of the group, Margaret and I would like to thank all who attended and look forward to our next trip. (see ... http://home.bigbutton.com.au/~rjboth/myweb10/page14.htm)

Arno Bay Caravan Park Managers, Steven and Belinda Dunn, were our hosts for our winter fishing trip. The weather was back to the good old days: cold wet and windy. The west coast weather can be very unforgiving, and this year was one of the coldest on record. Members who braved the cold and blustery weather made sure that all was tied securely when fishing from the jetty. The smart ones found calmer weather (and more fish) in the estuary at the end of the board-walk.
Wednesday night was schnitzel night at the local hotel and the 41 members had a good selection to pick from. Murray and Evelyn were delighted to finish up with a "hot chocolate". What with a Park Sausage Sizzle on Thursday night and pancakes on Sunday morning, members will have to watch the waistline in the coming weeks!
In the Big Shed at the side of the park, Steven hosted a DVD show on the local Clean Seas operation, where Tuna and Kingfish are farmed. The group also enjoyed the Tuna Cowboys DVD.
A trip never goes bye without some mishaps, and this trip was no exception. Two caravan awnings were slightly damaged in the blustery conditions: one member remembered to bring his fishing rods but forgot the reels! Another had difficulty in accessing a favourite fishing site and had to be rescued with a 4WD. All mishaps were overcome and we had no personnel casualties to report.
A total of 180 fish and six Cephalopods were caught for the week, most of the best fish being landed on the last day of the competition. Peter won the Yellow Jacket with a 35.5cm Mullet and Jeanette won the ladies section.
It was so rewarding for Margaret and I, to see so many members attending, considering the distance and bad weather that the group endured. We look forward to our next trip.
